Title: Inbetween [Goodreads][Amazon]
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Release Date: August 28, 2012
In My Opinion: Add to cart!
One Line: A very fun and a bit romantic, which is surprising considering you’re dealing with reapers!
Since the car crash that took her father’s life three years ago, Emma’s life has been a freaky — and unending — lesson in caution. Surviving “accidents” has taken priority over being a normal seventeen-year-old, so Emma spends her days taking pictures of life instead of living it. Falling in love with a boy was never part of the plan. Falling for a reaper who makes her chest ache and her head spin? Not an option.
It’s not easy being dead, especially for a reaper in love with a girl fate has put on his list not once, but twice. Finn’s fellow reapers give him hell about spending time with Emma, but Finn couldn’t let her die before, and he’s not about to let her die now. He will protect the girl he loves from the evil he accidentally unleashed, even if it means sacrificing the only thing he has left…his soul.
Touching, sweet, and fun are the words I’d use to describe Inbetween. Tara does an amazing job with her debut novel, filled with memorable characters, an intriguing plot, and dual perspectives which adds a refreshing feel to the story that I simply reveled in. You know I love a good “male POV”, but when it comes from both characters, you get more of an overall effect and, if done right, adds so much to the story and lets the reader really feel for the characters and the plot. I haven’t read a lot of reaper books, but Tara definitely peaked my interest in them and I love her personal take on who they really are and how they do what they do.
Finn is such a sweetheart, just a guy (or should I say, reaper) in love. They mystery behind his and Emma’s history slowly unravels as the book progresses and once it all comes out, you really feel for the couple. I liked the pacing of their romance and even though Finn loved Emma from another lifetime, he genuinely loved who she was in the present and gave her enough time to get to know and develop feelings for him. It is definitely a struggle seeing the one you love, but not being able to touch them or really be with them and Tara does a great job at playing that up, along with the ways that they try to get around that problem. One scene in particular was insanely funny, yet sweet and so romantic, and just when things can’t get any better, Tara pulls the rug from under you!
Probably one of the highlights of the Inbetween were the secondary characters. I loved Cash and Easton, truly some pretty interesting guys I’d want to know more about! Easton is Finn’s reaper friend and Cash is Emma’s best friend. Both play important roles in the story and both lend highly entertaining aspects to the overall storyline. They both support the leads in loyal and unconditional ways, and I love that Inbetween focuses on the aspect of true friends, in addition to the paranormal and the romance. Cash is truly hilarious and such a character, it’s hard not to fall for the guy. And Easton just screams “Do me!” in that sexy, devilish way that girls swoon over.
Inbetween is such a great and enjoyable read. Honestly, it’ll have you charmed from beginning to end and Tara definitely knows how to make a reaper sound appealing!
